Was this an end of era?

The West Bengal election has taught us many other things, other than people’s mandate. This election was purely between two Parties, namely TMC and BJP, or rather I should say it was more of a battle between PM Narendra Modi and CM Mamta Banerjee.

We saw in this election, EC (Election Commission) took active participation and made several blunders. In 2011 and 2016, the legislative elections in West Bengal were held during 6 phases, but during the second wave of the corona, the EC actually stretched the elections for a month over 8 phases.

Then we saw that no actions or warnings were given by EC to make election rallies smoother and precautionary steps should have been given so we could have broken the chain of Covid.

Then the biggest blunder that we saw was the counting blunder of the Nandigram seat. Mamta Banerjee was declared winner from the Nandigram seat but an hour later the EC announced that there was a mistake in the counting and Suvendu Adhikari, BJP candidate, has won with unanimous votes. One news channel showed that he won by 900+ votes, the other showed 1200+ votes, the other showed 1700+ votes and almost all channels showed a different vote tally.

Was this a question mark on the ability of the EC? or was this a question mark on the autonomy of the EC?

This election was more than an election, it was a battle for the future of India, it was a battle of corrupt TMC and authoritarian BJP. We saw Mamta Banerjee going head to head against the Prime minister, Home minister, 6 chief ministers, and many union ministers and still won with unbelievable vote counts. Could this be an end of an era of BJP’s dominance in India? Could this be the beginning of the crowning of a new lady Prime minister?
