Repeal of laws: Change of heart or fear of elections

The government repealed the three farm laws on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, what a day to call off the agricultural reform laws which eluded the farmers for more than a year from their rights, from their homes, and even away from their families.

The laws was passed in only 10 days from September 14, 2020 to September 24, 2020. But how come the government which hurriedly passed, strongly supported the laws and stood with it while the farmers were protesting, suffering and dying repealed the laws so easily. They even referred the farmers as andolanjeevi, Khalistani and even terrorist. The announcement came when the movement was already declining and was not on its peak, then why the government rolled back to its stance on the reforms.

We even saw some days back when the government reduced its prices of diesel and petrol. The prices of petrol and diesel were at a record high and we saw the increment each month. So why do you think the government is giving relaxation on its aggressive decisions one by one where the government was getting back lashed from the people. In February, there are elections in five states including U.P. , Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, so maybe the government wants to burnish its image in front of people to gather votes?

“What cannot be achieved by democratic protests can be achieved by the fear of impending elections! PM’s announcement on the withdrawal of the three farm laws is not inspired by a change of policy or a change of heart. It is impelled by fear of elections!” senior Congress leader P Chidambaram wrote on Twitter.
